For gaining rest, refreshment, and refocusing of one's life, there's nothing like staying directly on the water. Here is your chance to gain that in beautiful Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Description

This is a Retreat place that you, as a ministry leader, can enjoy with the whole family. There is a Suite on the first floor with attached full bath, queen bed, full hide-a-bed, walk-in closet and sitting area. There are also two bedrooms available upstairs with twin daybeds and trundles. There are rolling cots and a port-a-crib if a family prefers to have children in their own room. For the traveling family, highchair, port-a-crib, stroller, toys and books are available as well. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen for their meals, and a mini fridge is also provided in your suite. There is wireless internet, cable TV in the living room, and free use of the phone for US calls, since cell phone coverage is poor.

Waterfront Access

Since the Retreat is directly on the St. Mary's River, where Lake Superior makes the turn around the tip of Michigan to head towards Lake Huron, you have direct access to the waterfront and the use of 4 kayaks, 1 canoe, fire-pit on the beach, bicycles, hammocks and a tree swing. The water is quite warm most of the summer with a sandy bottom with wading depths out about 700 feet from the shore.

The Area

Sault St. Marie is the oldest city in Michigan. The best known attraction in town is the Soo Locks - where freighters, up to 1000-feet long, make the 37-foot drop from Lake Superior to Lake Huron. Bring your binoculars because the freighters pass in front of the Retreat for great boat watching. For day trips you can visit the beautiful Tahquamenon Falls; Whitefish Point and the Shipwreck Museum; quaint Mackinaw Island; historic Fort Michilimackinac; a black bear preserve, and many others. For the activist, hiking, boating, biking, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and snowmobiling are available. If you have your Passport with you, the International Bridge takes you into Canada for additional opportunities. And of course you can simply sit outside in the beautiful landscape, running beach sand between your toes, and vegetate -- don't you think you need a solid rest?

Cost

Your hosts, Jeff and Sue Slager are making this retreat available to ministry leaders -- missionaries, pastors, and religious organization leaders -- for up to a week, free of charge -- a contribution toward meals provided by the host would be appreciated.
